One Fan to Fire Up the Furnace

July 31, 2008 By: admin Category: deezs No Comments →

We live in a high-speed world. We want every thing now. Sadly, the “I want it now” attitude does not working in the field of marketing. Marketing is all cafefully planned, that’s why you must assume the position of the bard.

Bards of old traveled the world and weaved their musical webs to whomever would listen. If there were even one person, then the bard would cast his spell. And in the world of music you have to build your fan base one fan at a time.

I remember my first band. I hooked up to sing with this glam rock band a decade ago. We were about to play in the rec room of our dormitory. There were a dozen people and I was excited. It was my first opportunity to play on stage, when the drummer declared, “If there aren’t more people, I’m not playing.” I was devesated. It awoke me to something a number of bands have…arrogance. And it started me on the bardic path.

Since then, I’ve made every opportunity to play to individuals. I was down in San Marcos, Texas last year and my partner hadn’t yet arrived. A couple came in looking to hear some “Irish” music. I played “An Irish Lullaby” for them. The woman was in tears by the time I ended. Her husband? A music writer for the local paper. Needless to say, we got a spectacular review of our first album!

You see, every person is important. And the more the each individual adores you, the more likely they’ll tell their friends and bring them out to shows. And the sad thing is no matter how hard your try to bring a crowd, sometimes they don’t come out. So make each show the best it can possibly be for the one or two people in the audience. They will appreciate it, buy your album and tell all their friends.

One devoted fan is worth a hundred casual listeners. And you never know. That one listener could be your ticket to success!

Why You Still Can’t Play the Piano

July 30, 2008 By: admin Category: deezs No Comments →

You’ve spent good money on books. Workbooks, lesson books, other books on piano playing. But you still can’t play the piano. Why not?

Two reasons. One, you lack motivation. That’s understandable. After all, most lesson books require you to learn how to read music first, then play other people’s music. Pretty uncreative if you ask me.

The second reason is you haven’t learned how to use chords. Music, real music is created with chords as the foundation. In music there are 3 aspects; rhythm, melody, and harmony. Harmony is created with chords. Chords can give you melody and rhythm. Weird huh? But once you have chords under your eager fingers, you’re not far off from making music.

Now that you know chords are foundational for your creative success at the piano, you’re left with what to play, or what style to play in. Most people just want to learn how to play the classics. They want to learn how to read music so Bach, Beethoven and Mozart come to life through them. A noble goal but guess what? You’re still playing other peoples music.. no matter how good it is.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could create your own music? But how you’re wondering. Very easily. By using chords! I’m a big fan of the New Age piano style. It’s very impressionistic and attractive. Chords are used to create with and a complete beginner can begin improvising AND composing music literally within minutes! Fantastic sounds begin to appear and students are amazed what comes out of them.

Now they can truly play the piano. The creative juices flow as the warm sound of the piano floats in the air. Passerby’s wonder where that sound is coming from. You smile as they pass as your gift of music gently descends upon their ears.

Guitar Lessons - How to Change Bad Habits in Playing the Guitar

July 29, 2008 By: admin Category: deezs No Comments →

In the course of learning to play the guitar, many people develop bad habits which are disturbing and inappropriate to people. These bad habits are easy to overcome once the person realizes that he has them and becomes familiar with the proper way to play the guitar. Here are some easy steps to follow that will help overcome those bad habits.

1. The person must realize his weak points. This will help him easily identify the habits that are causing him difficulties when learning to play the guitar.

2. It is suggested that the person stop playing the songs or music where his bad practices usually show up. One suggestion is to go back to the basics of playing the guitar. It may take months to remove the bad habits but by practicing the correct way, the person will be able to overcome them.

3. Once realizing the bad habits that were developed, the next step is to analyze how he got to that point. It will help him analyze what he was doing improperly that led to acquisition of the bad habits.

5. The person should take a step to reverse the bad habits and one way to do this is to analyze the reason he developed the habits in the first place. Once he becomes aware of the bad habits, he can perform alternative behavior to replace the bad habits and go back to the basic enjoyment of playing the guitar.

6. The person needs to make sure that he performs the alternative behavior whenever he plays the guitar. It is important that the behavior is effective so that he will not be tempted to go back to the bad habits.

The person should be consistent in doing these steps to overcome the habits and before he knows it, he has rid himself of those habits. He can then go back to the usual music he used to play and he will see that all the bad habits are gone.

Changing bad habits into good ones is not as hard as it may seem. It does require patience and perseverance to be able to get rid of them and learn the proper way to play the guitar. Guitar players should learn to play with the correct techniques and strategies so that they will not develop these bad habits.
